Dr Chris Askew is an Associate Professor and Senior Research Fellow within the School of Health and Sport Sciences at University of the Sunshine Coast. He is an accredited exercise physiologist (AEP) with a particular interest in the pathophysiology and management of chronic diseases. His research group is currently undertaking studies in the areas of exercise and vascular diseases, cardiovascular responses to weightlessness and physical stressors, and the cardiovascular effects of cold water immersion recovery for elite athletes.
Chris holds adjunct appointments with the School of Medicine at the University of Queensland, and the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He is a member of the Exercise is Medicine Australia Taskforce and is the former President of the National Board of Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). In addition, he has been a member and Director of ESSA since 2008. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine Australia, the European College of Sports Science and an associate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
